The Practice of Being in Relationship
This week I'm writing the newsletter from the beach, deep in vacation mode. I'm grateful for these chances to reset my nervous system and get some perspective.
Which is maybe why I've been thinking about relational intelligence a lot over these past few days. It's essentially the premier social skill of modern relating, and it's changing what we expect, and what we're willing to do, for the privilege of being truly connected.
Relational intelligence isn't just a concept. It's a practice: reading the dynamics between people, understanding how two different histories and two different nervous systems interact, and adjusting your behavior in ways that serve the relationship, not just your own comfort or safety.
In other words, protecting your vulnerability at all costs is no longer The Move.
In case you missed the Substack this week, where I share more about relational self-awareness, relational-intelligence and, what I'm calling The Relational Revolution, here's a link.
I'll be back in the office next week. Until then, stay cool out there.
